‘Meat’ The Producers

By supporting these families to stay on the land, we hope to not only promote agricultural sustainability in our local region but to also encourage a new generation of passionate farmers. Whittlesea Family

Lou Whittlesea, a born and bred Fleurieu farmer, settled in Second Valley with his family as a 4 year old boy. At 24 years of age, a hard working shearer and local footy legend, Lou took custodianship of his first farm, a 160 acre property now known as Stoney Creek. Some 27 years later, that farm grew to another 200 acre irrigation lease hold, also within the Second Valley district.

Originally both dairy farms, the two properties took on a new lease of life in 2002 when, with Lou making the decision to slow his pace of life just a little, they were converted to beef cattle farming operations. Farming predominantly Angus beef cattle, with a small herd of Angus x and Murray Grey cattle, Lou is now joined by his son Greg on the family property. With three generations of Whittlesea farmers now working the land at Stoney Creek, the family farm to 100% grass-fed philosophies.

The Whittlesea family are well known throughout the western Fleurieu for their sporting achievements, community contribution and rich farming history.

Crawford Family
